Abiding in Him

The Bible tells of great promises to those who learn to abide in the Lord. When we stay in him, when we live in him, we will experience peace and happiness in him.

So you might ask, what exactly does it mean to abide in Christ?

To abide means to remain.

To abide in Christ means to stay close to him, to study His Word, and develop an intimate relationship with him.

When we abide in Christ, we will stay in a place of protection where we can rest, trust, lean, and rely on him and his promises.

We will begin to experience Gods presence, his joy, and his peace.

Let’s take a look at what the Bible has to say about abiding in Christ, and the fruits this will produce in our lives.

.

Let’s start by reading John 15:4-5;

The Passion Translation reads like this;

So you must remain in life union with me, for I remain in life union with you. For as a branch severed from the vine will not bear fruit, so your life will be fruitless unless you live your life intimately joined to mine. I am the sprouting vine and you’re my branches. As you live in union with me as your source, fruitfulness will stream from within you-but when you live separated from me you are powerless.

Now let’s read John 15:5, in the NLT Bible;

I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

Now let’s see what the fruits of the Spirit are.

Let’s read Galatians 5:22-23; The RSV Bible reads like this;

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control: against such things there is no law.

Wow, those are amazing promises to us by God! We can gain these fruits in our own lives, when we stay in him, and live in him. God desires a close relationship with each of us, how great is that?

Before we go today, let’s say a quick prayer together.

Lord, thank you that you love us so much, that you desire a close relationship with each of us! Thank you for your promises of the fruits of the Spirit, thank you that your Holy Spirit is our helper, and will come alongside us to help us as we build this relationship with you, we pray this in Jesus mighty name, amen.
